OVER 720 street names across the UK have been inspired by Robert Burns, according to new research by Royal Mail. Analysis of over 30 million addresses found that our national poet has been honoured with at least one address in 272 of the country’s towns and cities.

NATIONAL Records of Scotland (NRS) have revealed the list of 2018’s top baby names, with Jack and Olivia once again coming out on top. Olivia was the top girls’ name for a third consecutive year while Jack has been the most popular boys’ name for eleven years running.

SCOTLAND’S quietest station more than doubled the number of entrances and exits to its platforms this year, but is still keeps top spot as the country’s least used. Barry Links, near Carnoustie, recorded just 52 passengers between April 1 2017 and March 31  2018, according to Office of Road and Rail figures.

SCOTS swimmer Duncan Scott’s medal collection is growing and growing, having scooped a few more at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships. The 21-year-old defied the odds earlier this week in winning gold in the 200m freestyle, having started in lane eight. He also won gold as part of the 200m freestyle and 100m medley relay teams. There was a silver too for the Scot in the 100m freestyle.

RANGERS’ roller coaster season continues with the sacking of Graeme Murty. It signals yet more turmoil for the club as they battle for a second place finish in the Scottish Premiership. The former under 20s coach was given the job as interim boss after the sacking of Pedro Caixinha in October last year.

COMPETITORS in the 2018 Monte Carlo Rally were given a special send off at a start point in Paisley last night. The streets were lined by thousands of spectators in the centre of the Renfrewshire town as Provost Lorraine Cameron and 10-year-old Emilia Kozlowska, who designed the starting flag, waved off the drivers.

BRENDAN RODGERS’ first game in charge of Celtic was one of the most humiliating results in the club’s history. RANGERS manager Pedro Caixinha’s time in charge at Ibrox has come to an end. Last night’s draw with Kilmarnock was the final straw after Sunday’s League Cup semi-final defeat to Motherwell. In his time in charge at Ibrox, Caixinha failed to win three games in a row and presided over Rangers’ humiliating Europa League exit at the hands of Luxembourg’s Progrès Niederkorn.

GORDON STRACHAN says the memories of his time as Scotland boss will live with him forever. Over the course of his time as Scotland manager, the national side failed to qualify for three tournaments, including the latest agonising end to the World Cup 2018 qualifiers. Out of 40 games, he won 19, drew 9 and lost 12. Appointed in 2013, Strachan was tasked with getting Scotland to a major tournament for the first time since 1998.
